Lady Dragons Lose Match But Win District

     Coming down to the wire the Lady Dragons lost a nail biter to Fort Elliott to end district play. The loss was tough but the ladies finished the season 6-4 and were crowned District Champs.  Before the Varsity hit the floor though, the junior high saw action and while they played strong, they dropped their last match of the season in straight sets, 16-25, 13-25. 

    The JV ladies didn't fare much better, also losing in two sets. In the first set, the ladies gave the Lady Cougars  a run for their money losing a close one,  22-25. Showing great defense, the back row did an amazing job. The wheels came off in the second set though as the ladies lost 16-25.

     The varsity Lady Dragons were were for the win to end district and enter the playoffs. The ladies struggled in the first set, making costly mistakes and losing 16-25. The momentum changed in the second set and the Dragons came out on fire, going on a 9-2 run before Fort Elliott called a time out to try and stop the bleeding.But the timeout couldn't slow them down and they won the second set 25-19. The Dragons continued their run through the third winning handily, 25-15.

     Hoping to put away the Lady Cougars in the fourth set, the ladies came out strong but the Cougars had other ideas and  handed the Dragons a heart breaking 23-25 set loss.  In the fifth and final set, the ladies went on a hot streak with six unanswered points to start off with, but the Cougars came blazing back to beat the Dragons 13-15 and end the match.  But the Lady Dragon's record made them District Champs nonetheless. 

     "The loss to Fort Elliott was not the way we planned to end district play but we walked away learning from the loss and with the opportunity to make some minor adjustments before heading to the playoffs," Coach Sandra Tribble said. 

     The Lady Dragons will play Marfa for the Area Championship on Thursday November 5th at 5 pm at Seminole High School.
