Paducah PTO's Fall Festival raised more than $2,300 last week according to PTO President Crystal Tucker. The Fall Festival has been a staple in the community for years, providing an evening of games and fun for local families for several decades. In its early years, the event was called the Halloween Carnival and PTO Coronation. King and queen candidates from each class were nominated and voted on by the community to see who became the Coronation King and Queen for Elementary, Junior High and High School.
This year's Fall Festival featured carnival style games like the balloon dart throw and plinko, a bounce house, a car smash, a dunking booth and a train ride. Of course there was always the popular cake and pumpkin walks. The PHS junior class hosted a beans and cornbread dinner and bingo event in the cafeteria in order to raise money for prom expenses. The juniors sold out of food and made more than $750. Another bingo night is scheduled for January 16. The Paducah Chamber of Commerce's Trunk or Treat event took place on the streets bordering the south and east sides of the school campus before the PTO carnival.
"We had a huge crowd and it was fun to get to see all the kids dressed in their Halloween costumes. Everything seemed to run smoothly with trunk–or-treat being at the school as well. It was nice to go straight from that over to the fall festival. It seemed like having the two events together helped bring out a large crowd. I heard nothing but positive things about the fall festival and trunk-or-treat. "
Tucker said that PTO uses their funds to support the school in a variety of ways. "We help pay for field trips and most years we purchase gifts for the school. In the past we’ve purchased new die cuts for the publication room and a new set of knives for the kitchen. We also use this money to fund our other activities such as the color run and field day."
