Lady Dragons Dominate Lady Rangers

Posted Date: 02/13/2016

Last week, for their last district game, the Lady Dragons took on the Patton Springs Lady Rangers at home and came away with the win.  It was also senior night, so congratulations to all the seniors who played their last home game.

The Lady Dragons took the tip off thanks to senior Leslie Mayo. Senior Ali Smith the ball down court, assisted it to junior post Bailey Lambert who made the Lady Dragons first score. Soon after, sophomore Ebony Hampton stole the ball from the Lady Rangers and made a nothing but net 3, to set the crowd on edge. After a Patton basket, the Lady Dragons went back to work with Lambert pulling down a rebound and going up for the bucket to make the score 7-4 in favor of the Lady Dragons.  But the Rangers scored a quick pair of baskets to put them back in the hunt. Mayo soon got another rebound from the Lady Rangers and took it to the goal making the score 9-8. Another basket by Mayo made the score 11-8. To end the first quarter Smith put up a short jumper on an offensive rebound by Lambert.

To kick off the second quarter, Mayo scored and soon after, Hampton assisted the ball back to Mayo who scored again to increase the Lady Dragon lead, 17-8. Freshman Caylin Flemons subbed in for Lambert and immediately went to work on the boards. Freshman Kyanna Hurd scored on a steal and fast break, 19-8. Flemons grabbed another rebound and assisted the ball back to Mayo who put it up to go up 21-8. Smith put up the next points from the top of the key.  Late in the quarter, the Lady Rangers finally scored  but Smith added another basket to put the ladies 15 points ahead, 25-10.  Next it was Hampton’s turn to knock down a three pointer to begin the pull away from the Rangers.

On the other end, the Rangers missed their shot, Hampton with the rebound, and headed straight to the goal making a layup through traffic and making the score 30-13. The Rangers could do nothing on offense and Hurd and Hampton added matching baskets to boost the score 34-13.  The Rangers’ defense gave Smith a decent look at the basket and she rewarded them with a long three pointer to put the ladies up 37-13 by halftime.

Smith went right back to work after the break with a long three pointer. On the other end Lambert blocked a Lady Rangers shot, and took the ball to the hole making the score 42-13.  On the next offensive exchange, Smith was fouled on a layup and was able to make one of two free throws.  The rout continued with Hampton adding another two on a layup.

In the fourth quarter the Lady Dragons went in for the kill with Smith scoring six, Mayo adding four, and Lambert and Hurd each adding a basket.  Sophomore Mickalea Frawner sank the closing basket to end the game 63-21.

“The Lady Dragons ended the district season on a good note, clinching a spot in the playoffs. They are executing and playing well together. Playoff bound!!” said head coach Amy Bowles.
