Posted Date: 02/20/2016

Last week the Lady Dragons took on the Northside Lady Indians and dominated them by an astounding 39 points. This was the first round of the playoffs for the Lady Dragons and they came away as bi-district champions.

In the first quarter the Lady Dragons started off with a boom! Sophomore Ebony Hampton led scoring in the first quarter with seven points, followed by freshman Kyanna Hurd  who had six points.  Senior Leslie Mayo scored put up two points and a free throw for a total of 3 points in the quarter. Post players freshman Caylin Flemons and junior Bailey Lambert added 2 points each. By the end of the first quarter, the ladies already had opened up an impressive lead 20-4.

In the second quarter, the Lady Dragons proved that their talent wasn’t just confined to their starting line-up.  Freshman Marley Beck scored a total of two points,  while sophomores Angelica Garibaldi and Mickalea Frawner both added a basket.  Hurd added another four and Mayo scored a total of two points. Lambert led scoring for the quarter with seven points.

The Lady Dragons came out of the half time break refreshed and ready to polish off the game. The Lady Indians found themselves so far behind that there was no catching up as the Lady Dragons kept piling on the points.  Lambert and Hurd both added five more points a piece in the third.  The quarter ended with the Lady Dragons on top, 54-19.

In the last quarter, the Lady Dragons slowed the pace and controlled the ball to finish up the game 63-24 to clinch the bi-district title.

“The Lady Dragons had an excellent game against Vernon Northside for the bi-district championship. This time of the season is fun, exciting and intense. Every player contributed to our bi-district victory! One game at a time!” said head coach Amy Bowles.
