Holley and Smith Advance To State FCCLA

Posted Date: 03/06/2016

Two PHS students represented the Dragons at the regional FCCLA competition last week. Seniors Shelby Smith and Carli Holley were accompanied by advisor Rita Tucker to the competition in Lubbock. Smith participated in a Recycle and Redesign project. She re-purposed aluminum soda cans in to a lamp and matching shade.

Holley participated in Fashion Construction. She entered her baby clothes that she made for her senior project.  Holley used donated wedding dresses to sew burial clothes for still born babies. Her creations will be donated to an organization called Forever Love which will in turn give them to families who have experienced the loss of a baby.

“I am very proud of my project and what it means to me and the recipients of the outfits. I hope to bring a moment of happiness to grieving families. I am going to work extra hard to accomplish my goals at state. I am thankful for all of the support that the community has given,” Holley said.

Both girls advanced to the state competition in April, which will be held in Dallas, Texas.

Sponsor Rita Tucker said, “This was an exciting competition. I was very proud of both of our competitors and I am looking forward to taking them to the next level.”
