Last week a representative James Butts from Tulsa Welding School was on hand to encourage PHS juniors and seniors to have a plan for their future after high school graduation. Recruiter Butts used his own life as an example, telling students that straight out of high school he enrolled in Texas Tech University, not knowing what to major in. He changed majors several times before settling on a journalism degree. Butts emphasized that the process would have been easier had he made a plan earlier instead of waiting, "for things to fall in to place."
He also promoted the benefits of a trade school education at Tulsa Welding School and emphasized the huge demand in the market place for skilled welders.
PHS graduate Luis Martinez is a Tulsa Welding School graduate. With the help of thousands of online voters, Martinez won the Mike Rowe Works Scholarship which included full tuition to the prestious trade school. Martinez is now working as a welder in El Reno, Oklahoma.
