For the first time ever Paducah I.S.D has introduced a junior high tennis program and 20 seventh and eighth grade students are participating.
"The school board very graciously invested in a couple of new courts for the tennis program this year, so it just makes sense to try and get a junior high program going. The younger we can get them started, the better they will be should they decide to compete in high school," tennis coach Jori Parks said.
Junior high practice will begin once the high school tennis team wraps up its season. Parks said the students will concentrate on learning the basic strokes, rules and scorekeeping of the game. The Lizards compete in a district meet at the end of May and possibly play in another practice meet before district. Dates have not been determined.
“I’ve never played before, but I think it will be fun,” said seventh grader Emily Hart.
Seventh grader Jonathan Henderson said, “It seems fun, I’m looking forward to it.”
