Last week the Lady Dragons were on the road taking on the Rotan Lady Yellowhammers. Varsity played a strong four set match, and came out on top. Between seniors Kristyn Deaton, and Leslie Mayo, and freshman Kyanna Hurd, the trio had 16 kills. Senior, Leslie Mayo had served up five unreturnable serves in the first set.
In the second set Mayo had another eight amazing serves to finish the set for the Lady Dragons. Senior Hailey Wright, had 35 digs in all four sets. In the first set, the Lady Dragons came out on top with a score of 25-20, and pounded the Yellowhammers even harder in the second, winning 25-16. The ladies wavered in the second set and let the Yellowhammers slip by for the win 27-25, but the Lady Dragons came back in the fourth and finished with a 25-23 victory.
The junior varsity team had a tough fight against Rotan. In the first set junior Madison Beck had several digs and hits, although the set ended in 9-25 in favor of the Yellowhammers. But things came together better in the second set with the girls winning 25-17. Freshmen Lexi Lecroy, Shelby Truelock and sophomore Mickalea Frawner all had hit that Rotan could not dig. But inconsistencies and small mistakes led to a 21-25 loss for the JV Lady Dragons.
The Lady Lizards also had a tough fight against the Yellowhammers won the first set, 25-20. Eighth grader Addyson Bowles had a great tip that the Yellowhammers were not expecting. The second set was a tough loss in13-25, but Bowles an impressive hit. In the the third set, 8th grader Olivia Ramos tied the game 13-13, but Rotan ended up winning the set.
“I am really proud of the way our girls played against Rotan. We saw some good hitting from Rotan and the ladies did a great job defending it. It was a good game to play before our district opener on Saturday,” volleyball coach Sandra Tribble said.
