This past Thursday night the junior high and JV teams traveled to Spur to take on the Bulldogs. The first couple of drives for both the Dragons and Bulldogs teams, saw turnovers on down, but on the second drive for the Dragon JV, sophomore Jordan Mackey ran for a touchdown and scored the extra point to put the Dragons up 7-0. On the next ensuing drive for the Bulldogs, the Dragons made them turn the ball over on downs and the first quarter ended with a 7-0 score.
At the start of the second quarter the Bulldogs denied the Dragons another score.On the next drive Spur scored with 1:04 left in the half. The PAT kick was successful and put the Bulldogs up 8-7. The Bulldogs kicked off to the Dragons and with 0:47 seconds left in the half, Mackey ran the kickoff back for a touchdown. Freshman Dalton Howard ran in the extra point to put the Dragons back on top right before half, 14-8.
After the half, with some good defense by both sides, neither team scored any points until almost six minutes in, Mackey again scored on a long run. With the extra point attempt was unsuccessful and the score favored the Dragons, 20-8. On the next drive, Spur marched down the field and scored with a little over a minute left in the third quarter, making the score 20-14, and ending the third quarter.
With the final quarter underway, the Dragons wasted no time with the Dragons’ Dalton Howard scoring with seven minutes left on the clock, putting the Dragons up 26-14. The Bulldogs drove down the field, but were stopped when they turned the ball over on downs with less than four minutes left. Again wasting no time, the Dragons went down and scored with Mackey connecting with freshman Alec Roberts on a touchdown pass to make the score 32-14. The Bulldogs returned the kickoff for a TD making the score 32-20 in favor of the Dragons. But that didn’t phase the Dragons, as Howard returned the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown, effectively putting the game out of reach for the Bulldogs, 38-20.
